WATER SUPPLY

Water Treatment Works Design and Construction
Atkins in a joint venture with Watson Hawksley Asia, carried out the design and supervision of construction of the Pak Kong Water Treatment Works with the capacity of 727,000m 3 and using a two-stage process of clarification and filtration.

Build Operate and Transfer Water Treatment and Supply Project
Atkins undertook this US$800 million build, operate and transfer project in Turkey comprised a 108m high dam, a 480MLD water treatment works, four pumping stations and 150km of water supply pipelines.

Water Treatment Works and Service Reservoirs Detailed Design
Atkins undertook the detailed design of the Karkh Water Supply in Baghdad which included an intake pumping station, a 1,365MLD water treatment works, 240km of water supply pipelines and four service reservoirs.

Detailed Design and Construction of Water Transfer Facilities
Atkins, in a joint venture with Watson Hawksley Asia, undertook the detailed design and construction supervision of the Pak Kong Water Transfer Facilities, which comprised 6km of tunnel and 3.5km of water mains.

Environmental Appraisals of Water Resources Projects
Atkins evaluated in detail proposals for increased water supplies to Rizhao and Weifang in Shandong Province and Hepu and Liuzhou in Guangxi Province for Overseas Development (ODA) funding.

Water Resource Evaluation
Atkins undertook the water resource evaluation for this World Bank-funded project in North Algeria to satisfy water demand for a forecast of 20 years.

Treated Effluent Water Transfer Scheme
Atkins undertook a Feasibility Study to determine the optimal arrangement for the integration of the treated water supply between the Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works and the Silver Mine Bay Water Treatment Works to facilitate the bidirectional transfer of 150,000m 3 /day of fresh water between the two treatment works to enhance the water supply to Tung Chung, International Airport and Hong Kong West.

Water Supply System Master Plan for Resort Development
A full range of services were provided by Atkins for this RMB60 million resort development, which included the detailed design and construction supervision of the water supply system. Atkins also undertook the detailed design and construction of the storm water drainage and sewerage systems.

Uprating of Existing Salt Water Supply System
Atkins undertook this Feasibility Study that investigated all feasible options to determine the optimal method to uprate the existing salt water supply system in Tuen Mun to meet the projected population of 700,000. The optimum location and size of a service reservoir, pumping stations and trunk main alignments formed part of the study.

Water and Irrigation System Planning for Botanical Garden
Atkins developed the planning design of a water supply and landscape irrigation system for the Hua Nan Botanical Park in Guangzhou . The planning included the formation of lakes and reservoirs throughout the park for which a strategic water supply and drainage system was developed to maximise water usage through reuse, that included a reed-bed waste water treatment where the effluent could be used for irrigation of downstream landscape areas.

Water Supply and Leakage Reduction
Atkins was commissioned by the Water and Sewerage Corporation of Athens to investigate, document, model and implement improvements to the water supply operations and distribution system in Athens , Greece.

Network Operation Services
As preferred consultants to Thames Water, Atkins has completed a number of water mains network projects that included:
- Strategic model construction, investigation and planning;
- District metering and pressure management design; and
- Field-testing services.

Pressure Management Network Modelling
Atkins was commissioned by Southern Water to carry out a pressure management project in Crawley , UK . The project involved district metering assessment; identification of suitable pressure management areas. WATNET hydraulic modelling software was used to design pressure reducing valves and provide a comparison of predicted water savings.

Network Hydraulic Model Development
Atkins was appointed by Sutton & East Surrey Water to generate hydraulic network models of the reservoir zones in the Sutton Supply Area, UK to provide fully calibrated all-mains WESNET network models that geographically and physically represent the actual system.
