STORM WATER DRAINAGE

Storm Water Culvert Design and Construction
Atkins conducted an impact assessment using HydroWorks models to demonstrate that the proposed culvert realignment would not cause adverse impacts. The proposed railway and the associated development created a range of hydraulic and structural impacts on the existing drainage. We developed a series of mitigation measures to reduce to acceptable levels the identified drainage impacts.

Airport Storm Water Drainage System Design
Atkins, in a Joint Venture partnership, was responsible for the detailed design and construction supervision of the tributary drainage system for the new Hong Kong International Airport. The overall system included over 30,000m of pipelines, 12,500m of drainage channels, 500 manholes and 5 oil separation and pumping stations. The drainage system also included a first flush and oil separation system.

Storm Water Drainage System Review
Atkins reviewed the existing storm water facilities in Colombo, Sri Lanka covering an area of 4,000 ha. We prepared the implementation programme and cost estimates of proposed improvements and rehabilitation on behalf of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board.

Drainage Modelling
HydroWorks modelling software was extensively used for the hydraulic design and assessment of the proposed and existing drainage systems. Modifications to existing hydraulic models were undertaken to identify the impact proposed developments would have on the existing drainage system as part of Drainage Impact Assessments undertaken for the Drainage Services Department.

Hydraulic Improvement to Existing Drainage System
Atkins provided a range of major hydraulic improvement schemes for Southern Water to the existing drainage systems of towns in East Sussex, UK to prevent recurrent chronic flooding that had occurred in the past.
