RIVER AND COASTAL ENGINEERING

River Regulating Atkins was commissioned by Hong Kong Drainage Service Department and Shenzhen River Regulation Office to implement Phase II of the regulating to Shenzhen River, which included: planning, design, working drawing auditing and construction cooperation.

River Hydrodynamic Modelling Atkins set up a MIKE 11 hydrodynamic model of the River Kennet in the UK to simulate the impact on the river water levels, flow velocities and flow rates due to proposed abstraction.

Forecasting Modelling System Atkins, in a joint venture with the Danish Hydraulic Institute, was commissioned by the Environmental Agency to design, build and test a real-time forecasting modelling system for the Anglian Region, UK. Upon completion of the model, we were able to provide forecasts of flows and level at over 900 locations.

River Hydrodynamic Modelling Atkins designed and developed a hydrodynamic model using a MIKE 11hydraulic model to assess the effects of tidal exclusion barriers of the River Severn, UK.

Beach Resort Design Atkins carried out the detailed design of coastal structures on the shoreline and the near shore environment for a development in the UAE. The proposed structures were tested using physical models.

Coastal Protection Hydraulic Modelling Atkins conducted a strategy study using MIKE21 hydraulic modelling to determine the existing coastal conditions at the resort beach of Newbiggin Bay, UK to propose protection measures to stabilise the beach and restore it for a public leisure amenity.
