HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEERING

Man-Machine Interface (MMI) Study on KSL Main Control System (MCS)
Atkins was appointed by MTRCL to conduct a MMI study on the Main Control System for the Kowloon Southern Link. Many of the systems to be controlled by the MCS are safety critical. Atkins performed specification reviews and assessed the compliance of ergonomic design against relevant international standards and best practice. The MMI design review and demonstration was conducted to ensure that both human factors and ergonomics aspects of the system are fully integrated into the system design.

Ergonomics study for Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC)
Atkins was engaged by THSRC to conduct a human factors assessment to verify the manning of the OCC. The use of HEART techniques, Hierachical task analysis and Workload analysis are included as part of the ergonomics study on the control console, mimic panel, GUI of control system and OCC layout.

KCRC West Rail Ergonomic Study
Atkins was appointed to undertake an ergonomic review of the control room mimic panel, control consoles and ARC equipment to ensure that the Graphical User Interface (GUI) designs are compliant with ergonomics best practice principles. Also, we were responsible for the design of the control room layout using animated 3D models to verify the proposed location of consoles, lighting, colour schemes and sightlines to the mimic.
