North Island Link
Atkins was lead consultant in JV for the North Island Link preliminary design studies to connect Fortress Hill to Tamar Station. This included one new interchange station, and sections of bored and cut and cover tunnels. We provided management, tunnel, geotechnical, traffic, highways, drainage and safety and reliability inputs. This project involved working closely with MTRC staff as an integrated project team located in the Corporation's office. The station was to be integrated with a comprehensive property development area.

Kennedy Town Extension Feasibility Study (Now known as West Island Line)
This involved studies and preliminary engineering of a 4km, 4 nos. station underground extension of the MTR Island Line with potential linkage to Green Island Reclamation, North Lantau and South HK Island. In early 2001, Atkins was retained by the Corporation to update their previous studies and to assist MTRC in the preparation of their Proposal to Government for the West Island Line . The work in 2001 developed the option of three stations for the WIL, although a different alignment was followed. At that time, it was still desired to have a station close to Green Island Reclamation to serve the proposed property development on the reclamation. More recently we were a member of the Independent Review Team appointed by MTRCL to review the Preliminary Design to confirm the scheme, its constructability and capital costs.

West Rail TS-300 Central Section and TS-400 Southern Section Studies
Studies and preliminary engineering of the West Rail project linking the neighbouring Region of China and the North West New Territories with the urban area of Hong Kong . The Central Section lay on the project's critical path and comprised 8.25km of bored tunnel, 2.5km of cut and cover tunnel and two new stations. Much of the tunnel construction was under major roads. Mei Foo Station provides an interchange with the existing Mass Transit Railway system. The Southern Section included Nam Cheong Interchange Station.

Southern District, Rapid Transit System
Atkins was commissioned by Swire Properties and Bouygues to carry out a feasibility study to develop a rapid transit link between the southern district of Hong Kong Island to the Central Business District. The scheme developed had 12 stations over its 11.1km length of which 4.9km was in tunnel and the remainder on viaduct. A Build Operate Transfer proposal was subsequently made by the Developer to the Hong Kong Government.
