CLP Water Treatment Plant Refurbishment at Castle Peak Power Station, Hong Kong
Atkins was appointed to undertake a four-month Study to review two existing Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) at Castle Peak Power Station. The scope of work included an assessment of the current WTPs capabilities in respect to capacity against various input water properties, bench marking the facilities against world's best practice and undertaking an improvement study, assuming that the current WTPs technology and plant peripherals were maintained or alternatively adopting and migrating to new proven water treatment technologies. A full risk management process was undertaken as part of the Study to ascertain the major risks to the power station during the WTP refurbishment works.

CLP Engineering Design for Castle Peak Power Station HFO/IDO Pipeline Refurbishment, Hong Kong
Atkins was appointed to undertake a five-month Study to undertake an Engineering Design (including Tender Documentation) for the replacement of two oil pipelines at Castle Peak Power Station. Approximately 1.2km of existing sections of the Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and Industrial Diesel Oil (IDO) pipelines, were buried or inaccessible. These sections were redesigned at grade or in easily accessible utility trench to facilitate long-term reliability, maintainability and operability. All statutory approvals from BD and FSD were obtained prior to the tendering of the works contract. A full risk management process was undertaken as part of the Study to ascertain the major risks to the power station during the HFO/IDO pipeline refurbishment works.

CLP Supply Chain Study of Reagents and By-Products for CPPS ‘B' Emissions Control Project, Hong Kong
Atkins completed a Study, Supply Chain Study of Reagents and By-Products for the Proposed Emissions Control Project at Castle Peak ‘B' Power Station. The objective of the Study was to enable CLP Power to make an informed decision on which reagents to adopt, and in which form, and how the by-product from the FGD process – gypsum may best be put to market. The Study determined the various methods by which the products may be produced and delivered to site and the associated operational and logistical issues. As part of the Study, Atkins advised how the gypsum may best be sold onto the market and provided advice on appropriate mechanisms for securing an outlet for the gypsum, including the potential for selling off-spec gypsum on the market.
